MENTALMONSTER STÄBLER FETCHES HISTORICAL WRESTLER GOLD
Las Vegas 2015, Paris 2017, Budapest 2018: Frank Stäbler is world wrestling champion for the third time in a row and thus the first wrestler ever to become world champion in three weight classes.
After Gold 2015 (weight category up to 66 kg) and Gold 2017 (weight category up to 71 kg), the Greek-Roman specialist won a tactical final in the weight category up to 72 kg against local hero Balint Korpasi with 2:1.
As before Stäbler's title win in 2017, the preparation for the World Championships was full of resistance: Be it the dispute over the training hall in his home town of Musberg or the forced move to his parents' cowshed with training mats. The rib injury, initially misdiagnosed as a heart attack. Various foot and wrist injuries during the World Cup or an extremely heavy draw that broke his toughest opponents.
But it is precisely these resistances that make Stäbler unbeatable. Even before the competitions, he announced: "The greater the pressure, the better the version of me I can present". His words were followed by incredible deeds.
In the quarter-finals, the 29-year-old was already close to the end. Against the Kazakh Demeu Schadrajew he turned a 0:6 into an incredible 10:6. Mental was a masterpiece. In the semi-finals he won against Rasul Chunayev from Azerbaijan in the final minute, because Stäbler remained focused until the last minute.
"I am overjoyed about the third world championship title. Everything still feels very unreal, even with a few days to go. Once again, the outstanding support from my partner SPORLASTIC was an important piece in my success mosaic. As with my previous titles, SPORLASTIC provided me with optimal support and the middle hand thumb splint gave me perfect security. I would like to thank the entire SPORLASTIC team for the great support", says Stäbler.
Now I have one final goal: Olympic Games 2020 in Tokyo. "Everything must be geared to this", says Stäbler. The weight class in which the Musberger will compete will be exciting. The category up to 72 kg, in which he now became world champion, does not belong to the Olympic program. This means either reducing the weight to 67 kg or increasing it to 77 kg.
"It is still not quite tangible what a historic triumph Frank has achieved. We are very pleased that we have been able to support Frank for years with our bandages and orthoses and we especially like to see the middle hand thumb splint in action", says Torsten Schweizer, SPORLASTIC's authorised signatory, smiling. "We are always on the edge of our seats at all competitions and will of course be accompanying him on his way to the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020.
