COMPREHENSIVE TREATMENT CONCEPT OF THE FUTURE: PHYSIOTHERAPY VIA THE SMARTPHONE
Demographic change is having a growing and tangible effect on our society. Fewer numbers of children and a longer lifespan mean that our population is ageing. At the same time, older people have greater demands in terms of mobility, health and service than previously as our lifestyles change and the age of digitisation takes hold. The challenge we must face is to address the needs of these “young old people”. This also harbours a major opportunity for innovative developments, such as the use of digital solutions in rehabilitation and treatment.
SPORLASTIC has responded to these changes in society and, together with experts from the worlds of physiotherapy, health sports and medicine, created a comprehensive treatment concept. This concept offers physicians as well as patients real added value: a QR code positioned directly on the SPORLASTIC back or knee orthosis enables patients with a smartphone to access vital patient information whenever and wherever they want, as well guided therapeutic exercises. These can help achieve a faster and more sustainable recovery since they can be carried out by the patients themselves as constructive support for physiotherapy treatment and can be carried out anywhere and at any time. “Doctors and therapists also benefit from this concept”, says Torsten Schweizer, Head of Marketing at SPORLASTIC. “They save on treatment time, have less stress and can therefore increase the quality of the care they give.”
Initial data from Denmark, where a similar project is already being rolled out nationwide, shows “that patients with telemedicine-assisted rehabilitation exercise more than with conventional services, which are often not taken up to their full extent” (Uellendahl I., Management & Krankenhaus, November 2016). SPORLASTIC’s QR code concept is also receiving positive feedback, but still has scope for expansion as the Danish system illustrates. Here, the patient's training modules are recorded by their smartphone, enabling the therapist to track and analyse their training progress.
The common task now is to integrate these digital solutions into the German healthcare system too. To do this, we need to work even more closely with doctors, therapists and manufacturers. SPORLASTIC's motto therefore has to be: Together. Better in action.
